The honour, (which translated means Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) is awarded by the French government, has been given to Jacobs for his services to the fashion industry - as artistic director of Louis Vuitton he of course spends half his time hanging out in Paris.
And he's not the only one to be recognised. Nathalie Rykiel, daughter of Sonia and creative director of the Sonia Rykiel label, will also receive the award. According to WWD the duo will be presented with their honours by Culture Minister Frédéric Mitterrand in a ceremony tomorrow.
