Through the partnership, Vodafone will support Katrantzou’s shows, and the designer will devise a new way to use Vodafone technology to fashion ends. The to-be-conceived project will debut in February 2013 with Katrantzou’s AW13 show.
‘It won’t be a phone dress,’ Katrantzou told us at the launch event this morning, ‘but it will be something that really fuses fashion and technology.’
The new collaboration follows similar projects with Christopher Kane and Richard Nicoll. In May 2011, Kane remade a fleet of London taxis in his blockbuster ‘galaxy’ print; the cars came complete with mobile charging units. In February this year, Nicoll introduced his project—a white leather handbag with phone recharging capability.
Vodafone also plans to reprise its front-row charging stations during the upcoming SS13 shows.
‘We’re so proud to have the ability to work with some of the best fashion designers here in London,’ Vodafone UK Director of Brand Marketing Danielle Crook said. ‘Mary is world-renowned for her innovation and what she’s doing in the fashion world, so for us it felt like such a fantastic fit.’
