Michael Kors unleashed a new fashion vision for autumn 2013 on New York on Wednesday morning. It was dark and punk-inspired, with studded dog collars and shredded fishnet---

WAIT. No. Of course it wasn't. Kors is a designer who may as well legally add 'polished' as his middle name, and his New York Fashion Week show progressed the sleek sportswear perspective we've come to anticipate from this all-American designer.

Encouraging quarterly results provided buoyant context for an ultra-vivid collection. Tropicana oranges and cobalt blues looked even brighter alongside black plastic zips and panelling; so electric was the palette that models must have been grateful for the mirrored ski-goggle shades completing so many looks. 'It's all the colour we crave' but don't get in winter, Kors said backstage.

Tracksuit trousers, moto jackets and neon orange zip suits underlined the strong, athletic theme. A cobalt, black and white camouflage-patterned fur coat might not be too effective for blending in, but it's sure to brighten up the Aspen slopes next winter. Or Lincoln Center, for that matter.

'You've got to be an athlete to deal with life in the city today,' he said after fielding air kisses and congratulations from Jada Pinkett-Smith and Rachel Zoe. 'I love the idea that you can have this urban polish but still be athletic.'
