The designer Rosella Jardini must love London. Not only has she brought the collection here from Milan for the second season running, but London once again appeared to be the source of her inspirations.
London in the 1970s, that is, when flares, dungarees, hot pants and sky-high wedges were the thing. And pineapples. Werent pineapples the fruit of that decade? Cubes of pineapple and cheddar cheese on cocktail stick kebabs?
Anyway, pineapples played their part here running down the legs of flares, as a motif on the breast of a jacket, printed on dresses. There were even pineapple bags.
But it was the way the tongue-in-cheek, cartoonish looks were mixed with modern London street-style that gave this collection its commercial viability and energy. Think of todays most stylish fashion bloggers and youre half way there. Better still, Google the collections stylist, Julia Sarr-Jamois.
It was in the flash of neon-laced trainers beneath a strapless heavily jewelled cocktail dress and the super-high wedges worn with a perforated white tracksuit. And it was in the fist-sized rhinestone buttons that adorned a pair of apricot dungarees and the sporty zip-front jacket of a pistachio flared trouser suit.
Thats what Moschino Cheap and Chic captured here the high-low, haute-sport mix that is looking so right this spring / summer season.
