Leading the Bash Worth Teleporting Self to New York For stakes would have to be Barneys’ celebration of Carine Roitfeld’s collaboration.
The New York fashion institution (Barneys, not Roitfeld) invited the fash and fabulous to The Westway, a former strip club on the West Side Highway, for a round of high camp karaoke.
Roitfeld and Anna Dello Russo started proceedings with ‘You’re So Vain’, declining to dedicate it to anyone in attendance, before moving on to ‘Careless Whispers’. Then Simon Doonan stepped up for a rendition of ‘Nasty Girl’, The Cut said, and Margherita Missoni crooned 'Pretty Woman'.
The culmination of the evening didn’t come until later, when Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti took to the stage to sing ‘Unforgettable’. Mass applause spurred them onto—what else?—Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’. Yes, there’s video—watch and smile, below.
Also noteworthy: Alexander Wang’s frat-tastic party with XL beer cans, glow sticks and jello shots (New York Times critic Cathy Horyn thought they looked like beef consommé).
Rapper Tyler the Creator, who performed, introduced himself to the crowd in a manner sure to endear him to all of the styled-up guests. ‘If I happen to come in the crowd and just go wild, and you spill your drink on your expensive-ass shirt that’s probably ugly-as-f—k, don’t be mad at me ‘cause I warned you,’ WWD reported.
New York: as in your face and fabulous as ever, right?
