Olivier Theyskens' new job at Theory

Olivier Theyskens has been named artistic director of Theory.

During the round of fashion week's one of the most discussed collections - and the one that shot to the top of editors' wish lists - wasn't Chanel or Celine. It was the capsule collection that Olivier Theyskens has designed for Theory. The project was his first since he left Nina Ricci over a year ago, and industry insiders fell for the chic, simple luxe pieces in a big way. And it seems that his success has been noted - Theyskens has now been unveiled as the new artistic director of the brand.

According to WWD, Theyskens will now be responsible for overseeing the main women's clothing and accessories collections, as well as the men's offerings - the designer's first foray into the world of menswear. And he will continue to design his Theyskens for Theory collection too.

For some in the industry it seems like an odd fit - before now Theyskens has been best known for his ultra feminine, breathtaking, couture-like dresses and most thought that he would find himself another job with a major fashion house. Indeed his name has been linked to almost every big label around. But it seems that the partnership between Theyskens and Theory found Andrew Rosen has been a bit hit.
