The shoe you're going to be coveting next season? The one that's going to spawn a hundred high street imitations and that will somehow define your winter mood? It's a point-toed wedge ankle boot in navy leather with four thick leather Velcro straps across the front. Don't try to avoid it: Isabel Marant has decreed it.

'Lets face it, winter is depressing,' the woman herself told us backstage after the show, 'I don't get depressed, but when it's so dark and dull outside i don't feel like wearing lots of colour and making a big effort. For this collection I wanted to think about what a woman wants to put on when the weather is horrible and she doesn't feel like doing her hair or make up.

'The answer was layers: lots of fine illusion layers in a muted wintry palette of midnight blue and black, with some cream and grey marl thrown in for good measure. She's wearing leggings and skinny rib knits, thick duffel coats and shearling jackets - pretty much exactly what we wear in winter anyway, only on the Isabel Marant girl it's somehow perfect.

The leggings are made from just the right thickness of elastane and furnished with little leather pockets placed in the perfect position on the bum. The duffel coat is a covetable navy wool that will transform an ordinary outfit into an ordinary outfit that's utterly chic. The layers show glimpses of the real Marant girl beneath - little sweetheart necklines cut away to reveal a flash of perfectly buffed skin, long line vests peeking out from underneath mini skirts that top long expanses of toned thigh.

A simple necklace of black oversize pearls or a flash of rock n' roll studding on her jacket is all that's needed to take her to night time readiness - hair and make up still artfully undone.

It may be cold outside, but baby still looks piping hot.
