Previous designers to be honoured with the Fashion in Motion shows include Giles Deacon , Stella McCartney , Jean Paul Gaultier , Christian Lacroix , Alexander McQueen , Gareth Pugh and Vivienne Westwood - so the former menswear designer is thrilled to have been given the accolade.
We caught up with the designer in advance of the shows next week to get a preview of some of the looks that will feature on the catwalk, and to grill him about his favourites. Each of Jensen’s collections is inspired by a female heroine, which makes for a few interesting tales.
From the austerity of the Autumn Winter 2007 collection - which was inspired by a young princess in Denmark who refused to marry Henry VIII on the grounds of his serial wife-beheading - to the exuberant fun of the Spring Summer 2005 show, which Jensen describes as his ‘breakthrough’ and which was staged on ice using real ice skaters, Jensen has enjoyed a rich and varied design career creating beautiful and wearable pieces whilst keeping his tongue planted firmly in cheek all the way through.
Click through the gallery to relive some of Jensen’s design highlights before they hit the catwalk next Frida, and if you can't make the shows, be sure to check out the new book on Jensen being published by Dent de Leone to mark the ten year anniversary.
Fashion in Motion: Peter Jensen will take place at the V&A on 18 November
