Dozens of dreamy-eyed teenagers drifted around the Port Eliot grounds crowned in fairytale floral headdresses on Friday afternoon.
The pastel clusters of hydrangea, roses and dahlias perched on so many heads are the handiwork of The Flower Appreciation Society. The duo, also known as Ellie Jauncey and Anna Day, were given free range to collect as many flowers as they wanted for the project from Port Eliots grounds.
Having such beautiful flowers to choose from in the garden has made it much more exciting than if we had just gone to the market, Jauncey said.
More than just a bit of festival fun, the ephemeral accessories are part of fashions current love affair with flowers. For his debut, Raf Simons ordered one million stems of flowers installed on the walls of the show venue, and Jauncey and Day have created arrangements for shoots in Numero, Oh Comely and Upstyler.
But their most enthusiastic clients so far have been the little girlsand their motherswho stepped into The Flower Appreciation Society tent.
Its been completely madwe havent stopped for two and a half hours, and weve run out of flowers and wire two hours early, Jauncey said. But its so nice wandering around and seeing everyone in our headdresses.
