Miuccia Prada has a problem. The and mastermind is set to be the subject of the Costume Institute’s upcoming exhibition ‘Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations’, but she doesn’t agree with the style of the display.

‘It’s too formal; they are focused on similarities, comparing feather with feather, ethnic with ethnic, but they are not taking into consideration that we are talking about two different eras, and that [Schiaparelli and I] are total opposite,’ the designer told WWD before her show on Sunday. ‘I told them, but they don’t care.’

We can’t imagine anyone teling the formidable Ms Prada ‘no’, but then again, this isn’t her exhibition. If Prada were to finance a show of pieces from its archives, Prada herself presumably would offer extensive input. But surely she must see that the Costume Institute’s curators are free to draw their own comparisons, whatever her point of view.

‘My way of thinking is there, at least in speech,’ Prada added. We remain, as ever, eager to hear what she has to say.

UPDATED Wednesday 18 January at 9:15 am: Prada has issued a statement correcting the 'out of context' WWD story:

Miuccia Prada is honoured and proud to take part in this exhibition which is ‘an impossible conversation between Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiapparelli’. The comments printed are taken out of context and therefore misconstrued. Mrs Prada confirmed that she admires the total curatorial independence of the museum to the extent that they almost did not take into consideration her vision.
