Miuccia Prada has a problem. The and mastermind is set to be the subject of the Costume Institutes upcoming exhibition Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, but she doesnt agree with the style of the display.
Its too formal; they are focused on similarities, comparing feather with feather, ethnic with ethnic, but they are not taking into consideration that we are talking about two different eras, and that [Schiaparelli and I] are total opposite, the designer told WWD before her show on Sunday. I told them, but they dont care.
We cant imagine anyone teling the formidable Ms Prada no, but then again, this isnt her exhibition. If Prada were to finance a show of pieces from its archives, Prada herself presumably would offer extensive input. But surely she must see that the Costume Institutes curators are free to draw their own comparisons, whatever her point of view.
My way of thinking is there, at least in speech, Prada added. We remain, as ever, eager to hear what she has to say.
