It feels as though the buzz around Baz Luhrmann's big screen adaption of The Great Gatsby has been building forever. While we still have to wait until May to see Carey Mulligan and Leonardo DiCaprio take their turn as Daisy Buchanan and Jay Gatsby, our appetite for the film has been whetted once again thanks to these newly released sketches of Carey's wardrobe.
Designed by none other than Miuccia Prada, who has previously collaborated with Luhrmann on Romeo + Juliet, they are just a taste of 40 dazzling Miu Miu and Prada gowns that are set to grace the Bright Young things in the movie. The pieces have been created in collaboration with the film's costume designer, Catherine Martin, and in true Jazz-age style we're promised luxe silk gown, sequins and embroidery, and enough flapper-style beading to make a girl's head spin.
Says Martin, 'Baz and Miuccia have always connected on their shared fascination with finding modern ways of releasing classic and historical references from the shackles of the past. This connection is central to our relationship with Miuccia Prada on The Great Gatsby, and has connected our vision with hers.'
