McClaren's name maybe more synonymous with music than fashion - he managed the New York Dolls and the Sex Pistols and, let's not forget, gave the world Bow Wow Wow - but his partnership with Westwood is the stuff of legend. In 1971 the pair opened their shop on the King's Road, originally called Let It Rock and later re-named Sex. Here Dame Vivienne and honed her love of S&M-inspired gear, and the duo created now iconic bondage trousers and ripped T-shirts held together by safety pins, all worn by the Sex Pistols and now synonymous with the world of Punk.
McLaren died yesterday morning in New York after a long battle with cancer. Westwood paid tribute to her former husband, saying 'When we were young and I fell in love with Malcolm, I thought he was beautiful and I still do. The thought of him dead is really something very sad.'
