Yesterday marked Queen Elizabeth II’s 88th real birthday (yes, Her Royal Highness has a second 'official' birthday in June). And, to mark the milestone, Buckingham Palace has released a black and white portrait of our Queen, shot by inimitable photographer David Bailey.

The duo are rumoured to have got on like a house on fire on the shoot back in March. (You can tell by her beaming smile, no?)

Bailey says: ‘I've always been a huge fan of the Queen. She has very kind eyes with a mischievous glint. I've always liked strong women, and she is a very strong woman.’

The ultimate style conundrum: what does one wear for a Royal portrait? Why, an elegantly tailored dress created your own Senior Dresser, Royal diamonds and a heap of classic cream pearls, of course.
