It was a green carpet, complete with yellow brick road, that stars James Franco, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis and Zach Braff walked down last night for the European premiere of Oz the Great and Powerful in London.
Michelle Williams added a burst of colour in a midnight blue gown from the Burberry Prorsum Spring 2013 collection which she paired with peep-toe Jimmy Choo sandals. Michelle plays Glinda The Good Witch in the movie and said that she hoped people take what she took from it, “it’s a beautiful fairy-tale in a magical land which is a great place to go.”
All the actors spoke of the experience of making the movie as like being transported to a fairy-tale which is perhaps why their mischievous side came out with Michelle admitting that she “may or may not have taken a wand from set” while Zach Braff, who looked sharp in a Dolce and Gabbana suit said “I was definitely the biggest prankster”.
As for the costumes in the movie, director Sam Raimi said “This is a very visual movie and I felt the costumes should be an absolute representation of who the characters are so that’s why Michelle’s character The Good Witch is in a flowing white gown.”
Michelle’s wardrobe, on the red carpet and in the movie, contrasted Rachel Weisz’s who, after choosing some bold colours previously by Lanvin and Victoria Beckham on the ‘Oz’ press tour, chose a Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2013 nude gown.
The subdued colour choice is distinctly different from her character’s wardrobe, “When you meet Rachel in the movie she is purporting herself to be the ruler of the Emerald city and so she’s in emerald green but later as she’s revealed to be the wicked witch she shows her true colours and her costume goes jet back, so it’s a very simple archetypal approach to the wardrobe” said Raimi.
Mila Kunis continued her winning premiere-look streak last night wearing a sophisticated Alexander McQueen Spring 2013 gown while James Franco was seen sporting his new dyed ginger hair-do while greeting fans which, unlike the movie, it appears the jury may still be out on.
