The Rodarte designers will create their first opera costumes for the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni in May.
They join a creative team guaranteed to draw the eyes and lenses of the global media. Gustavo Dudamel, a charismatic Venezuelan conductor who has been profiled in US Vogue, and starchitect Frank Gehry complete the team.
‘It only took a few seconds to say “yes,”’ Laura Mulleavy told the LA Times . ‘My grandmother sang opera, and if she were alive today, this would be her proudest moment.’
The designers promised their costumes ‘won’t be oriented to a period in history but will be more abstract.’
Anyone who witnessed their installation of intricate gowns at Pitti W in Florence knows that the Mulleavys are destined to dress divas. We can’t wait.
