ELLE favourite Folk has tapped model-turned-nutritionist Rosemary Ferguson to be the face of its a/w 2013 collection – and we’ve got an exclusive first look at the pictures.
‘She was in i-d and The Face and all that at an exciting time in the nineties and she’s still cool but it’s not that important to her,’ Folk’s head of design, Elbe Lealman, tells us. ‘We like a relaxed feel, a little bit effortless, we’re appealing to the tomboyish women who don’t need to put something sexy on to feel sexy. We thought Rosemary had that appeal to her, self confident and doing her thing’.
We caught up with Rosemary to find out what makes her wardrobe tick:
What do you love about the Folk collection?
I like the shape and I like the simplicity of it. And I like the fabrics, I like the way they feel. It’s something you just put on, it’s really easy, but it has a strong silhouette so it doesn’t feel like you’re just chucking on any old thing.
How would you describe your personal style?
Quite simple I would say, every now and then I put on a dress but I’m more of a trouser type. I like a mannish element, I love a suit.
What are your go-to labels?
Vivienne Westwood – although she’s nothing like the style I’ve just described. Stella McCartney, Future Classics, Martin Margiela. And I love the high street, Zara and Gap. But I’m not a big shopper - I have got a lot of clothes that I can recycle and I like vintage stuff too, I go to Relik.
What’s the most prized item in your wardrobe?
An amazing dress that looks like Roberto Cavalli. It’s floor length and tiger print with a high neck and this cape which you tie around your waist for an extra layer. I’ve had it for a year but I’ve never worn it out ever, there never seems to be an event posh enough to wear it at. It’s not very me but I love it.
What are you most comfortable wearing?
Jeans probably. Jeans and a shirt. After a long time wearing different clothes I’ve realised that actually that’s what suits me. Quite boyish suits me. My favourite pair is from Helmut Lang and I’ve had them for years. They’re just black skinny jeans. And I like 7 For All Mankind and MiH jeans too.
What has been the highlight of your modelling career?
Someone found one of the flyers for a cover of The Face that I did with Corinne Day and I’ve got it framed on my wall. I was still at college when I did it and I hadn’t told anyone at school that I was modelling and everyone kept going, ‘Are you on the cover of The Face magazine?’ I was quite proud.
