The fashion crowd gathered in the tents at Somerset House this morning and marked the start of LFW with a one minute silence in tribute to the dearly departed Alexander McQueen . The BFC have set up a wall within the tents covered with images of his most iconic creations where fans and friends can leave messages dedicated to the designer.
Leading the silence alongside BFC chairman Harold Tillman was Sarah Brown , who is fast becoming a regular on the London Fashion scene. She was championing British designers by stepping out in an Erdem top and skirt teamed with Russel & Bromley shoes and jewellery from Astley Clarke - and very stylish she looked too.
The Prime Minister's wife also revealed that the British Fashion Council will be offering support to the government's Backing Young Britain initiative, which has been set up to help the young people struggling to find jobs in the economic downturn. The cream of the British fashion industry including Erdem, Julien MacDaonald and Osman Yousefzada are set to join in by offering enthusiastic youngsters apprenticeships and placements.
