It’s official: the fashion world is in love with singer Sky Ferreira.

She was Hedi Slimane’s girl of choice to model Saint Laurent’s pre-fall collection for its lookbook. She gets a front row seat at . And now, as one of the faces of Benetton’s autumn/winter 2013 campaign – which is all about women in music – her appeal just went mass.

ELLE caught up with the itsy-bitsy blonde with the big voice and the even bigger boots on the set of the London shoot.

You have such a distinctive look. Is your onstage musical persona different from the real Sky, or is this just you?

Basically, I just like to wear what I’m completely comfortable in. But sometimes, I don’t feel comfortable looking like a complete slob on stage. It really depends on my mood. The only way I can perform is if I feel confident, and I can’t feel confident if I’m not comfortable in what I’m wearing.

How would you describe your style?

Grungy. I still go thrifting all the time, but as I’ve got older I got a lot more into designer, luxury clothing. I’m willing to take more risks. I don’t always wear gigantic T-shirts anymore! But I do always wear big boots…

Which shops in particular do you like to visit for thrifting?

In LA I just go to Good Will and stuff like that. It’s easier [to do it] in LA than New York. Upstate New York is good too, like Salvation Army, but in New York City, it’s kind of hard to go thrifting – there are vintage stores, but it’s expensive. My favourites are Screaming Mimis and Metropolis, which is my absolute favourite one. It was my best-kept secret. But not any more!

Is there anything you have your eye on this season is there anything you are desperate to get your hands on? Any trends you love?

I don’t actually know many trends that well – I suppose you notice them over time. I was on a shoot and there was this turtleneck that was also a crop top too; that’s pretty cool. I also want those jewelled tights.

Is there anything you would never wear, or are you pretty brave?

There are some things I don’t like – I don’t like shoulder pads in jackets, military-type jackets, or 80s-type Thriller jackets. Even though it looks really cool on the jackets, I just can’t do it. It doesn’t look good on me.
