Star Wars has a special place in everyone's heart. Whether it be your Chewbacca impression or that Star Wars filofax you thought would make you cooler than Luke Skywalker at school, everyone wants a little piece. With that in mind, ten London-based designers have created original Star Wars: The Force Awakens-inspired pieces, which will be sold in support of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity.

Preen by Thornton Bregazzi,  J W Anderson, Peter Pilotto and Thomas Tait are among the ten mens and womenswear designers who have put their own stamp on the franchise, creating bespoke t-shirts and sweatshirts which will be available to buy at Selfridges from 26th November. A custom Star Wars-inspired catwalk look will be auctioned off for charity. We caught up with Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi, the duo behind Preen, to find out why Star Wars resonates with them.

What was it about this project that made you want to get involved?

We love everything relating to the original Star Wars. So much so that it influences everything we design, but it wasn’t until our AW 2014 collection that it was so evident, with Darth Vader’s mask seen as large graphic prints throughout.

What is your fondest Star Wars memory?

Star Wars was the first film I ever saw that I truly could identify with. Its visionary look and art direction has stayed with me as a subconscious inspiration in all we do.

How did your specific designs come about?

The Light and the Dark within the force inspired us. Our graphic prints are inspired directly from the vision of lightsabers. We incorporated a Jedi feel in the silhouette with bold kimono style sleeves and a multi-layer wrapped neckline.

Who is your favourite character?

Darth Vader

If you could be in any of the Star Wars films which one would it be, and why?

Empire Strikes, because it’s the best one
