Stella McCartney awarded OBE

By Emily Cronin

Stella McCartney’s remarkable 2012—a year in which she dressed Team GB athletes and won top prizes at the British Fashion Awards—has reached a new high, with the designer having been awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours List.

McCartney’s work creating more than 500 individual pieces of performance-wear for the London 2012 Games in collaboration with Adidas provided an unparalleled platform for the fashion designer.

As well as ensuring that Britain’s athletes were the envy of all competitors in the Olympic Village, the feat paved the way for McCartney’s recognition as Designer of the Year and Designer Brand of the Year at the 2012 British Fashion Awards.

She joins the ranks of the honoured alongside several of the Team GB sporting heroes she dressed: Bradley Wiggins, Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis, Victoria Pendleton and Ellie Simmonds are also named on the New Year Honours list.
