Imagine for a minute you’ve landed your dream job in fashion (at ELLE, naturally). Then imagine that on your first day at the office you find yourself sitting next to the editor-in-chief. Terrified?

At ELLE this is the reality of how we work day-to-day, we're not terrified, but at one point or other each of us has sat next to the editor. In our new, ‘rebooted’ ELLE 360 working environment the editor has no office.

The Devil Wears Prada would have been a very different film if Miranda Priestly wasn’t hidden away in a plush office. Although if Lorraine Candy was anything like Miranda Priestly the ELLE Team may have already staged an intervention and built her an office with our bare hands... out of fashion samples and archive magazines if necessary (we’re a resourceful bunch).

In the latest issue of Business of Fashion’s print edition and online from today, three game-changing women shaping the future of fashion media are featured - and ELLE’s editor-in-chief Lorraine Candy is one of them.

‘ELLE 360’ is the term we use at HQ to describe our unique way of working. We are a truly integrated team producing content across both ELLE’s print and online products and contributing to all social media platforms. As part of this integration we all ‘hot-desk’ in an open plan space with the #ELLEfashioncupboard at the centre and yes, the editor has no office. If you visit you’re as likely to find Lorraine sitting next to our newest intern as the deputy editor.

‘I need to know that my staff are happy,' the boss explains. 'As soon as you put a woman in an office where no-one gets to talk to her unless she makes an appointment, how the hell is she going to know what’s going on? I didn't want to be removed from my team.’
