David Longshaw and Dominique Mosley have sent Selnec, Longshaw’s illustrated fashion blogger, to the globe’s fashion capitals with a new collection of silk scarves.
In the collaborative collection, called ‘Around the World in 6 Accessories,’ Selnec traipses across London, New York and Paris via five scarves and one tote bag.
‘When I won the BFC/ELLE Talent Launch Pad , ELLE and the BFC said it would be great if I could use my illustrations and prints on more accessible pieces that would broaden my appeal,’ Longshaw told us. ‘So I thought it would be fun to work with Dominique. Style- and ideas-wise we’re quite different, which is what makes the scarves more interesting, as it’s adding something new to what we do for our own labels.’
Longshaw and Mosley have known each other since meeting as nine-year-olds at their Cheshire primary school. They reconnected at Central Saint Martins, where Mosley completed an art foundation course and Longshaw did a BA in womenswear.
For this, their second season working together, the designers created an Art Nouveau-inspired Paris scarf with pistachio and apricot swirls, a New York scarf bordered with graphic skyscrapers and a best-of British scarf with a punky take on the Union Jack and stylised crowns at every corner. The Globetrotter and Voyager scarves marry elements from all three cities (red phone boxes, macarons, hot dogs).
So, where might Selnec turn up next?
‘At the moment I’m thinking summer sports, but with a more fashion angle,’ Longshaw says. ‘I can’t imagine Selnec being too into all that sweating you think of with sport. But who knows?’
