Four days (and nights), 19 designers, one dog, over 400 shots, a few tears and a lot of laughs – all edited to become an impassioned 35-page spread in our October issue. And now, one captivating exhibition of 20 images. For our exclusive This is London portfolio, ELLE was granted an unheard-of all-access pass to document London’s leading designers in the emotion-laden lead-up to London Fashion Week. Now, we invite you to experience it too.

Opening its doors tomorrow as part of London Fashion Weekend, This is London, the exhibition, will be on display at Somerset House until Sunday 22 September. Shot by Yara De Nicola, edited by ELLE Assistant Editor Rebecca Lowthorpe and coordinated by ELLE Designer Phoebe Sing, it's the closest thing many will get to being a fly on the wall in a designer’s studio. Think contemplative and alone in his studio; having a sneaky smoke surrounded by his 1950s pin-up muses; touching reportage of Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thornton showing their young daughters, Fauve and Blythe, how to add those meticulous finishing touches; himself adding that final sharpening spritz of hairspray and Max the poodle sweetly unaware of his impending importance.

‘For the first time ever, ELLE has documented the making of London Fashion Week, gaining unprecedented access to designers and models backstage and further cementing our reputation as the leading fashion magazine in the UK,’ says Editor-in-Chef Lorraine Candy. ‘Never before has one photographer been allowed to witness these extraordinary moments and the result is a surprising, intimate and dynamic portfolio of the world's most influential fashion week.’

The story doesn’t end there: from 22 September you can download our interactive This is London app, which gives you extra 30 unseen images, a GIF and full catwalk videos from the designers for only £1.99.

Our reaction: ‘It literally gives me goosebumps every time I look at it.’ Yours? Tweet us @ELLEUK and let us know what images you loved, how it moved you and what London Fashion means to you.
