'Valentino: The Last Emperor', the film about his life and work, has been shortlisted for the awards in the Best Documentary category. Of course, strictly speaking it would be the director of the film, Matt Tyrnauer, who would receive the accolade, but we like to think that he'd take the Italian designer on stage with him.
The film is contending with 14 other works and is the only one about fashion - others in the category include 'The Cove' (that's the one about preserving dolphins) and 'Mugabe and the White African'. Frankly, after watching all the heavyweight offerings we suspect that the judges will be grateful for something a little more upbeat. And as Valentino has dressed a large number of the judging panel for the red carpet, we think the film is in with a good chance of winning.
