Would you wear a pink wedding dress? Vera Wang thinks you should.
Taking the phrase 'blushing bride' to heart, the highly sought-after designer has just showed an all-pink collection at New York bridal fashion week for autumn/winter 2014.
Not for the shy and retiring, Wangs ultra-romantic gowns bear all the signature ruffles, gathers and flattering corsetry for which she is known; this time realised in standout shades of deep fuchsia, vibrant rose and statement coral and festooned with giant flowers and saccharine bows.
Of course Wang is no stranger to controversy; editors growing accustomed to the lack of traditional ivory in her high-concept shows. Past collections have comprised gothic black and nude (autumn/winter 2012), bold crimson (spring/summer 2013), and, last season, monochrome with leather accents. In fact, one of the biggest shocks of all came a year ago to date, when Wang chose to present a traditional all-white collection.
Wangs vivid gowns may be deemed too avant garde for most, but the trend for soft blush, or hint-of-pink wedding gowns has been simmering for quite some time, led by A-listers like Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway and Gwen Stefani, who all chose to flirt with pink on their wedding days.
