Whatever you think of Victoria Beckham, you’d be hard pushed to argue that she’s not the master of reinvention. (We suspect a certain Kardashian was, in fact, taking notes.)

So complete is her transform from blingy WAG to that it’s sometimes difficult to remember her as the former. Which was kind of the plan, she says.

‘For a long time there, I was a bit of a laughingstock,’ she acknowledges.

‘And while everybody was busy laughing, what was I doing? I was laying the foundation to what I have in place now.’

No stranger to landing magazine covers (including ELLE’s), Beckham’s latest will be one of which she’s particularly proud – she heads up the Business of Fashion’s second special print edition, The Companies & Culture Issue, which puts her business under the microscope alongside brand such as Hermès and Rick Owens.

High praise indeed – though that’s not to say it’s all gilded lilies, champagne and rainbows, she reveals in the interview with BoF founder Imran Ahmed. She jokes: ‘I’ve only actually just had an office that has windows. I was downstairs in the cupboard!’

Business of Fashion: The Companies & Culture Issue will be available to buy from 28 April; pre-order it here.
