Dame Vivienne Westwood, designer, national treasure and political activist is still vigorously championing her latest cause celebre – the political dissident and founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange.

She rocked up at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he is staying, to show her support, both in person and via her T-shirt, which featured her own portrait and the slogan – ‘I am Julian Assange’. The garment was first seen at her Red Label catwalk show in London, which model Jade Parfitt also attended wearing the statement top.

Julian Assange is wanted by the Swedish authorities on charges of sexual assault which he denies, and the British government plan to extradite him. This explains why he is sheltering in the Embassy, where he must remain inside the building at all times or face arrest.

Dame Vivienne is not his only high profile supporter, only Lady Gaga popped round for a cup of tea with him on October 8th, and Tweeted a picture.

Presumably on Vivienne’s visit they shared a glass or two of red wine, since the designer displayed to photographers the bottle– secreted in the pocket of her voluminous striped trousers – on her way in.
