Why Henry Holland doesn’t want to have fun

By Emily Cronin

‘If the headline on this article is “House of Fun”, I will be sending it back to you—once I've shredded it—in a Ziploc bag,’ Holland warned the Independent.

The designer best known for his bright, poppy sensibility is eager to shake off the ‘fun’ tag in favour of something a little more… well, serious.

‘It doesn't keep me up at night, but I would like to be taken more seriously,’ he added. That’s why his spring summer 2013 collection looked ready for a slightly more grown-up client, with its overblown grunge-era checks, metallic leather jackets and almost demure dresses (key word: almost… did you clock those thigh splits?).

‘[I’m] trying to show that there is growth and development, and that you don't have to use the word fun every time you talk about my clothes. I'm so over the word fun.’

When moody is this good, who needs fun?
