Any designer lucky enough to scoop the coveted CFDA Fashion Fund award is going to be keen to prove their mettle, and 28-year-old French-American designer Joseph Altuzarra has done so by creating a capsule collection for J. Crew that proves his market savvy.

Known for his body-skimming femininity, the young designer looked to his homeland for the inspiration behind the preppy 7-piece collection, which consists of modern interpretations of mariner’s stripes and crisp gingham shirts reminiscent of Brigitte Bardot basking in the St-Tropez sun.

Altuzarra’s signature sexiness is lurking beneath the surface of every piece in what appears to be a neat, all-American collection at first glance: the gingham sundresses have sewn-in bra-cups in them and espadrilles have just the right amount of height.

The collection is on sale from today on Jcrew.com, and there is more to look forward to as CFDA runners-up Pamela Love and Creatures of the Wind will realease their collections later in the season.
