Peter Jensen 'Fashion in Motion' at the V&A

Autumn Winter 2004: One of Jensen’s ‘personal favourite collections’, the muse for this show was artist Cindy Sherman and her murder mystery pictures. The first look Jensen chose is a quirky but simple outfit worn by Irina Lazareanau for his Autumn Winter 2004 show.

Danish designer Peter Jensen is the latest designer to be chosen to be the focus of the V&A Fashion in Motion event. The day of catwalk shows coincides with the designer’s ten year anniversary, and will offer a retrospective of Jensen’s work throughout the decade. Spring Summer 2005: Jensen describes this as his ‘breakthrough’ show, in which the team hired professional ice skaters to model the collection. ‘I can't say that it was a fun collection to do,’ recalls Jensen, ‘because we were really poor and had no money, but we were determined to make it work and I have to say that it did.’

Autumn Winter 2007: Another seminal collection for the designer, this time inspired by a Hans Holbein painting of the young Princess Christina of Denmark, who refused to marry Henry VIII after Anne Bolyn. ‘She was, I think, the strongest of all the women that we have used as inspiration for our collections,’ says Jensen.

Autumn Winter 2010: This collection was inspired by Scottish novelist Muriel Spark, and featured lots of Scottish fabrics and plaids. Recalls Jensen, ‘We got nominated for a Scottish Fashion Award for using Scottish Fabrics. We didn't win, but the party was fun.’
