Taylor Swift, everyone’s first choice for everything, has just been announced as the new host of 2016’s Met Gala AKA the fashion party everyone wants an invite to, with Jonathan Ive and Idris Elba co-chairing the event alongside our Tay.

Part of us wonders if Taylor Swift and her Bad Blood video concept had something to do with the Costume Institute's upcoming ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology’ exhibit, which inspired the fashion extravaganza’s ‘future’ theme. Whatever the case, it's quite the departure from last year’s ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’.

The exhibit will include both handmade and machine-made pieces to show the relationship between the two, with 3-D printed, laser-cut, thermo-shaped, and circular knit garments all expected to be on display, with some designs likely to be worn by the A-list attendees.

‘Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made’, explains Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute.

‘But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other.’

The tech-themed Met Ball will take place on May 2nd 2016, and will be chaired by Apple's Johnny Ive, with the brand sponsoring the event.

And with tech behemoths Apple in the ring, we’re expecting 2016’s costumes to be mind-blowing.  No pressure, guys.
