Clarifying reports that she quit modelling because it made her unhappy and unwell, she took to Twitter to explain that in fact she still enjoys modelling but that the initial, intense period of her career came at the wrong time for her.

Claims that she had given up on modelling circulated following an August 2015 interview with The Times, in which she said: 'Modelling just made me feel a bit hollow after a while. It didn't make me grow at all as a human being. And I kind of forgot how young I was. I felt so old.'

Since then she has been focussing on film work, gaining roles in Suicide Squad, Paper Towns and Valerian.

Yesterday she was announced as the new face of Saint Laurent. Today the fashion house announced the departure of creative director Hedi Slimane.
