Donatella Versace has been on a roll with her runway messaging, following up last season's celebration of feminism with a new collection that literally broadcast the words equality, love, strength, courage and unity on the clothes.

There's something to be said for just putting a positive message out there. And if the old adage that one must dress for what one wants in life holds true, than who knows, maybe wearing a beanie demanding love and equal rights in all caps across your head might lead to something good.

One by one, her cast of old and new catwalk power players (Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Adwoa Aboah, Mariacarla Boscono, Amber Valletta and more) stomped the runway in a sporty mix of tailoring, knitwear and graphic dresses. The sense of power and athleticism she established for spring was still there, but in a less literal sense with a wider range of wardrobing. There was black tailored power suiting for the office, brightly coloured shearling and fur coats for the weekend and sculpted knit body-con dresses for evening, among other things — many accessorised with slogan beanies, scarves and gloves declaring her feel-good, do-good message.

Whether or not the rumours of a new creative director, Riccardo Tisci, waiting in the wings is true, you can't accuse Donatella of not having control of the moment.
