Autumn is upon us and while were desperate to slip into an aviator jacket, its not exactly weather appropriate. It is august after all. So which of the new trends can you channel into your wardrobe without risking heat exhaustion? Heres our run down of six easy new season updates that you can tap in to now for a wardrobe makeover
Find out which labels the ELLE team is loving for the new season here...
1970s Heroine: You may have noticed already that camel is set to be the colour of the season. A cashmere coat in a variation of the shade is going to be a vital part of your wardrobe come winter, but for now focus on tailoring. The look is polished and a little bit seventies, and the key to getting it just right is finding the perfect trouser. Look for something tailored, high waisted and straight legged and add a blouse and a simple, luxe leather bag. And don’t forget the ultimate accessory – a perfect blow dry.
Fifties: We’re not sure if our favourite designers are Mad Men addicts (Miuccia claims never to have seen it) but there’s no denying that the 1950s influenced a host of collections. And it’s an easy look to channel. Top of the list of essential items are (gasp) kitten heels. Yes, they’re back in a big way, and this time they’re being worn with socks. If you want to go the whole mile then add a full skirt or shift dress and a ladylike handbag – the Louis Vuitton Neo Speedy is the fashion crowd’s favourite.
Dolce & Gabbana are bringing sexy back this season. True, its underwear as outerwear look may not translate easily into real life but you can nod to it by adding a dash of lace and leopard print to your outfit. You’re channelling Italian glamour here – picture Sophia Loren or check out Madonna in the Dolce ad campaign. Choose animal accessories to accent lace-trimmed pieces or, for the more daring amongst you, a sheer lace blouse.

Shearling: The sensible fashion fans amongst you will have already snapped up your aviator jacket, but until the temperature drops a few degrees the chances are that it will remain in your wardrobe for a while yet. In the meantime satisfy your hunger for shearling with a pair of lined boots. Team them with bare legs and lace – opt for more subtle green and tan shades rather than overtly sexy black – or take a more military turn with khaki trousers.
