Is gender officially over? I ask because much of the aw16 men's shows look perfectly suited for women. Even before the tragic news of David Bowie's death broke, his spirit has been all over this men’s season as designers continue to inject their clothes with the kinds of frills traditionally reserved for women and toy with gender fluidity — ideas that became trending topics in recents years thanks to JW Anderson and Gucci, but go all the way back to Ziggy Stardust.
Couple this with the fact that men's shows featuring women have been on the rise (8 ladies walked in Gucci today), with some labels using the former as an opportunity to show pre-fall clothing for the latter, and it becomes clear why we would want to shop those runways too.
How many men are buying into this more feminine, fluid mood remains to be seen. But either way, it looks like the men's and women's departments in some stores will be looking very similar come fall. Here are some of our favourite looks from the men’s season so far.
