Windbreakers

Gucci, Isabel Marant and Valentino mixed functionality with style this season with their luxe versions of the hiker's favourite item - the windbreaker. The catwalks paired them with matching shiny trousers, but if that feels a little too much, then try juxtaposing them with something a little more polished – whether a midi skirt and T-shirt or thrown over a dress.

Finally, trousers with pockets big enough to carry your iPhone. Obviously, this isn't the first time cargo pants have become a fashion hit – All Saints were big fans back in the 90s – but it has been long enough for them to be revived, as seen as Sies Marjan, Valentino and Prada. No longer the sole preserve of men over 40, baggy polo shirts have been given a chic makeover by way of Céline, Joseph and Marc Jacobs. Cycling shorts

Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid and the 2017 Love Islanders were early pioneers of this divisive look which later appeared on spring/summer 2018 catwalks, from more traditional sporty spandex incarnations at rising cult label Off-White to luxe lace styles worn under puffball skirts at Saint Laurent. We're still not endorsing cycling shorts outside of the exercise arena per se, but they might be helpful if you're wearing a particularly flimsy dress come the summer months.
