Rising star Alexander Wang was inspired by sportswear and that most American of past times - football, while Ralph Lauren had been pondering America's resilience in the current economic climate. The result? A multitude of NY designers taking an introverted look at the clothes that make America great. From cowboys and farmers, to the Pioneers and sportsmen - a patriotic mood appeared on NY's catwalks as all-American girls donned sporty, easy-to-wear classics in denim, cotton and grey-marl jersey. Chinos, preppy blazers, shorts and sweatshirts all made an appearance and will be top of the list of covetable American classics for spring.
