Barely-there gowns, political statements, a sassy Blue Ivy... The 2018 awards season has seen more talked-about moments than most.

It kick-started with solidarity-inspired dressing at the Golden Globes, followed by the BAFTAs, with sales of black dresses consequently sky-rocketing. But the all-noir uniform doesn't mean the red carpet has lacked fashion with a capital "F."

Indeed, style and a cause are not mutually exclusive and the stars have served plenty of dazzle in jewel-adorned couture and a cornucopia of colour, from greens to pretty pinks.

So with a new season on the horizon, take inspo from the rainbow-loving A-list. Bold brights are proven to make you happier — and let's be honest, we could all do with a mood-booster right now.

Celebrities are seeing red this season, from Camilla Cabello at the Grammys to Anne-Marie at the BRITs owning their sex appeal in striking gowns. Wallflowers, look away now.

"Nothing screams Hollywood siren quite like red," says fashion and celebrity stylist Madeleine Bowden. "From Crimson to scarlet to all-out pillar box, there are no limits when it comes to this hue. Wear head-to-toe with matching lipstick for a real show-stopping look."

If an all-red ensemble feels too extra, try a pick-me-up accessory instead. Crimson ankle boots are still having a moment and cherry-tinted sunglasses area fun way to tap into the trend.

The ubiquity of pink isn't going anywhere fast and awards season has been knee-deep in a range of tones from cotton candy to rose quartz.

"Rather than pink fatigue, the gowns feel current and fresh," says Madeleine. "Head to toe tonal is my all time favourite way to serve the look. A fuchsia dress? A salmon coloured suit? Just do it." You don't need to tell us twice...

"When a certain frog (of recent meme fame) sang 'it's not easy being green', he obviously hadn't witnessed Salma Hayek in this Gucci gown," says Madeleine. "No longer the back of the pack this colour is now front and centre and why shouldn't it be? Regal: good. Opulent: good. Flattering no matter your hair colour: excellent!

A bright bag or bold pair of earrings is a great starting point if head-to-toe green is too much of a commitment. THE OUTNET has a wide selection to choose from so there's really no excuses.

While the Golden Globes and BAFTAs saw a sea of all-black outfits to champion the #TimesUp initiative, the uniform also served to amp up the fashion stakes. The stars chose outstanding silhouettes, striking accessories and bold beauty looks, proving that black doesn't have to be boring.

According to Madeleine, "Black is my go-to for any and every event. It's the most versatile colour you have in your arsenal. You can pile on the accessories, go graphic with tailoring and cutouts or keep it chic and effortless with paired back detailing. Never underestimate the power of a great LBD."

As the colour of 2018, it's little surprise to see Ultra Violet popping up all over the red carpet. According to Pantone, the blue-based purple "communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future." Sign us up.

"Jewel tones will always be synonymous with luxury," says Madeleine. "The great thing about this colour is due to its creative nature you can really play with texture. Velvet, satin or sheer... they're all ripe for the wearing."

How better to make an impact than looking sparklier than your Kira Kira app?

"Saint Laurent paved the way with a penchant for '80s silver disco and wherever Vaccarello goes, we all follow," says Madeleine. "Silver is the perfect look for all-out glamour. I would always go minimal on the accessories and let the shimmer do the talking, best worn with copious amounts of confidence."

Whether you pair metallic trousers, like this pair from THE OUTNET, with a white tee or wear a high-shine slip dress over a roll neck jumper, it's time for some serious Kira Kira spamming.

7. BRIGHT WHITES

There's something inherently optimistic about head-to-white. It's a blank canvas and a palate cleanser, not to mention a foolproof way to look chic and polished. Take Tracee Ellis Ross who looked positively regal wrapped and draped at the SAG Awards or Hailee Steinfeld putting a modern spin on the bridal hue with colour-popping accessories for the Grammys.

So how to wear it? "There is something so inherently classic about a pristine white dress in the perfect cut," says Madeline. "A pop of colour always lends itself to clean, crisp white to take it from aisle to carpet in one easy swoop." Excuse us while we get shopping...
