Five of the Best Blow-the-Budget Christmas Travel Gifts

With Christmas right around the corner, we found our minds wandering to what we’d buy ourselves if we could just forget the budget for a second. And while it may not quite become reality, we can always dream...

Leica Camera

We must admit we were more than a little excited when word of the new Leica D-Lux 5 Titanium camera reached our offices. First up, here comes the science part: it's got a compact titanium plated exterior, 1.63” CCD image sensor, a resolution of 10.1 megapixels and a 3” LCD screen. You can choose to shoot in a variety of formats and it even comes with a download of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, as well as its own soft, calf grey, leather case. All in all, it’s the sort of camera that most amateur photographers can only dream of. Just one quick word of warning, though: your boyfriend will become incredibly jealous.

R Cube

If you’re looking to bag yourself a seriously stylish docking system this Christmas, then the compact R Cube demands consideration. The chic, convenient cube has sleek, rounded corners and a lid that flips up to reveal an iPod dock and carrying handle. Cool design aside, this gadget is so much more than just a pretty face: the rechargeable lithium battery will provide up to four hours portable listening and you can stream music wirelessly from your computer. Our favourite bit, though? You can control the music being played from your iPhone. Convenient and gorgeous.

Chanel Skis

So, you’re all kitted out with our top ski accessories, but the one thing we didn’t mention but would very much like (should Santa be listening...) is a pair of chic Chanel skis. While there are any number of oh-so lovely skis to choose from in the Chanel sport range, we love these fancy curved fibreglass ones with their trompe l’oeil quilted pattern. And if we were truly splashing out, then we’d probably get a pair of composite ski poles to match. Erm, and maybe some of those lovely matte and leather quilted goggles. In fact, we think head-to-toe Chanel skiwear (a la Victoria Beckham) would do us quite nicely...

Globe-Trotter Suitcases

We probably couldn’t hammer this fact home any more, but at ELLEuk, the importance of good luggage is hard to overstate. And while Mulberry and Brics come high up on the list, if we were really going to blow the budget, we’d go for one of these incredible Globe-Trotter cases. Harking back to the golden age of glamour in travel, the heritage brand makes each individual piece on antique Victorian presses by hand, using multiple layers of bonded paper. HRH Queen Elizabeth II used Globe-Trotter for her honeymoon luggage in 1947 – which pretty much says it all. And if it’s good enough for royalty...

Bamford Cashmere Blanket

We’ve been eyeing up this sumptuous cashmere travel blanket for a while now. And while a blanket might not seem like the first thing you might want to rinse out your monthly food budget on, if you felt this 100% cashmere Bamford one, you might just change your mind. We wouldn’t be exaggerating by saying that it has a cloud-like softness that will revolutionise those weekend lie-ins, providing relaxing, soothing comfort. All from a blanket. Who’d have thought?
