Admit it, we all have a social media girl crush, whether it’s some far-flung blogger, actress or your best-friend. So in the spirit of the coming month of fashion weeks, that time of year when #OOTDs are aplenty, here are our the top styling tips of the moment we've gleaned from Instagram.

1. Wear Your Sleeves Extra Long

This was a firm favourite microtrend on the street style circuit last fashion month. Having started on the catwalks at Stella McCartney and Jacquemus, long sleeves trickled down to bloggers including Pernille Teisbaek and Celine Aagaard and on to the high street. Go for the styles that have just the right amount of slouch.

2. Be Clever with Your Layering

By now, you may be familiar with the popular shorter-dress-over-the-longer-shirt trick. And now, layering is getting even more inventive. Take outerwear: Camille Charriére has cleverly layered her jacket over a bomber. Well played. We also recommend wearing a buttoned up denim jacket under long coat. Double the style points, double the warmth.

3. Can’t Decide Between Skirt and Trousers? Wear Both...

Another stand out layering trick is to wear your skirts over trousers, a favourite of street style star, Margaret Zhang. Straight leg trousers and mid-length skirts seem to be the winning combination at the momemt — and the easiest to carry off.

4. Leave The House in Your Pyjamas

From slip dresses to silk dressing gowns, nightwear as day wear has taken off in a big way. Take inspiration from Leandra Medine of Man Repeller, and layer a cami over a rollneck and tuck into high-waisted jeans.

5. The Awkward Length is The Right Length

Kick flare trousers that finish just above the ankle might sound awkward in print but look fresh and modern IRL — not to mention they're a great way to show off your favourite ankle boots. See blogger-turned-editor Pandora Sykes

6. Pick n Mix Your Prints

Susie Bubble is known for her love of bold colours and fun prints. Here, she's mixed her prints in a way that even the more reserved amongst us wouldn't be afraid to try. Sticking to the same pattern and layering in different shades adds dimension to an outfit without being too crazy.

7. Invest in Your Basics

Instagram Queen of Minimalism, Brittany Bathgate, always manages to stand out, even in the least complicated of outfits. She proves it's worth spending a little extra money when investing in those old faithful wardrobe staples. The better the fabric, the better it will fall. (And if you look after it, the longer it’ll last too.)
