Spring/summer 2017 in New York is looking an awful lot like a tango night. I'm only five days into the month of shows and I've already seen too many cascading ruffles to count. Frills have been going strong as a trend for a solid two or three seasons. But here in New York, it seems to have reached a tipping point, with designers preferring a very specific kind of look — the flamenco lady emoji to be exact.
She surfaced at Altuzarra, covered in cherries.
And at Prabal layered under cozy knits
At Diane von Furstenberg she came in kimono silks
And in bold patterns and bright colours at Brock
More ruffles again, this time at Tome
And in pale greys and blues at Zimmermann
And at Rodarte in a fantastic recreation of the look that made her famous in the first place
