Geek chic? Really, again?

Sorry guys, but schoolgirl vibes are most definitely back in business, only this time, they've got a French-girl twist, to ratchet up the vibe from casual nerd right through to Parisian super-genius.

From supersize blazers, through to genuinely pulling off a beret, here are the things you need to know:

Welcome to the geek chic master class of 2017, we'll leave the marking to you....

1. A blazer is all you need this spring

Put your bomber away. Go one, banish it to the back of the wardrobe. The blazer is back again.

Understandably, we all have a love/hate relationship with the garment, which stirs up memories of swampy school blazers, quickly followed by our 9-5 work wardrobe.

However, the profesh item has once again blazed to the top of street style trends this season, so we think it's time to wipe the slate clean.

Although we can all agree a classic black blazer always looks très chic, non? The fitted workaday look isn't a priority. In fact, the fash-pack have elected to go for the 'start of term' look. You know the one, when your mum attempted to buy your blazer three times too big so it would last you the whole year. Yeah, that one. Plus, extra points if it has shoulder pads, after all, the 80s are all in. Pant-suit nation is international.

2. Get that hair ribbon at the ready

Hold the phone, is this for real? Are we really going to be taken seriously while resembling a member of the Rugrats? We're already cracking up at the thought.

Well, it's happened - an array of high-profile designers have brought back the hair accessories of our school days. Most notably H&M Studio and Chanel's AW17 shows, which made alice bands the 'in' thing.

Both shows heavily featured black bands tied around the hairline, with Chanel going for more modern vibes using a leather material.

However, things didn't stop there, oh no. Oversized hair bows also made an appearance at Tory Burch and Marchesa, to name a few. Who knows, maybe this Year 7 look will mean we won't get ID'd next time we buy a bottle of wine. That would be good.

3. No one can get enough of berets

Berets are one of those fashion items, like midi dresses or flared trousers, some of us can pull them off and others really, really can't.

In case you missed the memo, though, berets have been sneaking back onto the scene for a while now.

However, if you wanted conclusive proof that this is the headgear for you this year, look no further than Dior's AW17 show, which featured a leather beret in every single look.

4. Yes, fake glasses are still a thing

Meanwhile, Gucci is still on the glasses hype. So, if you thought Instagram selfies featuring fake glasses had run its course, you were wrong. It's not going anywhere.

5. If in doubt, follow Badgal Riri

Rihanna's latest Fenty x Puma collection just majorly remixed geek chic, making us all want to reach for our crested knitted jumpers, tartan dresses and hell, even our leavers' hoodies again.

Fair to say it was GOIN' OFF and the collection had something for every gang. We're talking preppy, sporty and obviously, the bad gals who smoked round the back of the bike sheds. But mostly, Riri proved you just need a lil' bit of attitude to get your geek chic poppin' this year.
