FOOD: Beast

Serving only king crabs and steak, Beast is perhaps not an unexpected venture from the owners of the seriously cool Burger and Lobster but we're willing to bet it's a successful one.

For one thing, the clever décor delights diners of all tastes. It can be an ancient Nordic retreat for lovers of all things Skandi or a Potter fanatic’s very own Great Hall.

And, of course, the food is of unbeatable quality. USDA prime steak is served up alongside Arctic Circle crab with Friends of the Sea approval.

3 Chapel Place, W1 0BG

beastrestaurant.co.uk

THEATRE: 1984

Dizzying and visceral, Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan’s stage adaptation of George Orwell’s game-changing novel – now at the Playhouse following a sell-out run at the Almedia – is a raw and, in places, all-too familiar account of Winston Smith’s rage against Big Brother, Telescreens and the unpleasantness of Unpersoning.

It’s 1 hour 40 minutes, no interval and no readmission – in other words, no chance to catch your breath. Brace yourself for Room 101.

Playhouse Theatre, Northumberland Ave, WC2N 5DE
