The shortlisted nominees for the Women’s Prize for Fiction are in - and it’s a brilliantly mixed list that includes American novelists, A. M. Homes and Maria Semple, previous winners Zadie Smith and Barbara Kingsolver, the marvellous, headline-grabbing Hilary Mantel and witty Kate Atkinson. The beautiful hall of St Pancras is more than just a buzzing, international travel hub: it's also a spectacular exhibition space. On Thursday 18, a new piece of public art is being unveiled to the public - Cloud: Meteoros, designed by British-born artist Lucy Orta and her husband Jorge, will be suspended above the crowds on the Grand Terrace. This dreamy artwork is one of a series of sculptures that will be erected in order to replace the space left by the Olympic rings. The celestial art has been installed permanently, but don't wait till you're running to make the 17.45 to Cambridge to snatch a glimpse: pop along and enjoy it properly this weekend.

See Now: Pick Me Up art fair
Back for another year of bold graphics and compelling illustrations, Pick Me Up, held at Somerset House, showcases emerging artists alongside established talents, and much of the artwork is available to buy. This year, there are creative forums and evening events added to the usual programme, plus workshops from award-winning Aardman animation group, whose classic cartoons include Wallace & Gromit and the guilty pleasure, Chicken Run.

We were hesitant to jinx it, but we’re confident now: spring has sprung. Yes, all too often spring means showers, but at least the weather is no longer levelling an arctic chill at our poor faces. Celebrate with a trip to Beagle in Shoreditch. Set in railway arches right next to Hoxton Station, it has an expansive outdoor terrace and a cocktail menu devised by Myles Davies, former mixologist at Viajante and Hix. Head east for a tipple in the (hopefully) sunshine.

Eat Now: Social Eating House
Chef Jason Atherton has an eye for the kind of food and setting that Londoners want – he opened the popular Pollen Street Social in 2011, closely followed by little sister restaurant, Little Social. Social Eating House is designed in the same mould. Based on Poland Street in Soho and with interiors designed by Russell Sage Studios, it’s homely, comfortable and serves hearty food, all without surrendering its Soho cool. It opens this weekend; we predict a food fight.
