A word that is likely to strike fear and horror into many a grown woman’s heart, the bralet comes to the fore once again this season – but it’s far more wearable than you might have thought.

From Marilyn Monroe to Madonna, bralets have made their way onto some killer bodies, and whether cotton poplin or leather and lace, always maintain a youthful and carefree sex appeal. Get the proportions right and the bralet can be a key piece with all the va-va-voom of the early 50’s Sicilian siren (think Dolce & Gabbana, whose domestic goddesses guide the sentiment of this season’s crop tops).

A tiny sliver of skin is all that’s needed to achieve the effect: pair a bralet with a high waisted skirt or tailored trousers, and top with a breezy open shirt and heels, and you’ve got a winning combination that’s the cream of this summer’s crop.
