Inspired by the Nike archive, Sacai creative director Chitose Abe treats classic sports staples (such as the Windrunner jacket) to her trademark juxtapositions. Cotton sweaters have been juxtaposed with chunky Sacai knits – giving them a rare quality that has been missing in the sportswear market. Meanwhile, the matching Windrunner skirts are customised with pretty satin and lace slips.
The ex-Comme Des Garçons designer’s signature pleats can be found billowing out the back of cotton t-shirts. Realistically, yes, you might find a leather trimmed, dense wool skirt to be ill-chosen gym attire, but the oversized shapes are far more appealing than second-skin Lycra for chilly winter walks.
