1Keep it lightweight
The biggest fear when wearing dresses over jeans is that you will end up looking bulky. To avoid this, choose floaty lightweight frocks rather than anything too chunky – and accessorise with delicate, ladylike shoes and bags. We'd also recommend sticking to a skinny or straight-leg style, rather than a flare.
2Try an asymmetric hem
Styling frocks over trousers is all about maximalism so don't try and make it work with clean lines and neutral colours – go big. Play around with longline blazers, bright hues, ankle-length denim and an asymmetric hem.
3Ditch the tights
This winter, think of your jeans as a (very chic) alternative to tights. Not only will they help keep your summer dresses out for longer, but they will expand your footwear options and add a much cooler element to any ladylike look than tights ever could.

4Go ankle-length
Even if you're showing just a hint of denim, it will give an undeniably cool spin to your ensemble so wear ankle-length frocks and show just the very bottom of your skinnies.
5But don't dimiss a midi
While it's much less daunting to wear long floaty frocks over your jeans, there's no reason why you can't make something shorter work too. This boxy mid-length skirt brings these straight-leg jeans to life.
6Make it shirty
Pair a tailored, button-up frock with jeans for a chic contrast. The classic style of the dress will perfectly offset the denim and make for a seriously effortless look.

7Bring out your evening dresses
As well as allowing you to wear your summer dresses for longer, the trend will let you to bring some of your eveningwear into the day. Take this sheer, floor-length dress which has been made far more casual by pairing it with light-wash jeans and a hoodie.
8Go a size up
Wearing a fitted dress is never going to look good over jeans – it will more likely than not look bulky. So instead, choose oversized smock shapes or go a size higher than you usually would.
9Wear it open
If you have a button-up summer frock, don't fasten it all the way up. Leave a few buttons undone from the waist down to create a fabulously floaty look that is actually extremely flattering on the hips.

10Play with proportion
The trend works best with statement dresses, so opt for frocks with cut-out detail or exaggerated sleeves and then keep the rest of the ensemble simple.
