We reckon we could probably go to a fashion week in a different city every week of the year. And we probably would if we could (even if the thought alone makes us feel rather exhausted). So before we jetted off to New York we hopped over to Spain to see what the 080 Barcelona Fashion Week had to offer.

We love an original show venue and the 080 venue proved a winner (not least because it housed all the shows under one roof which means less running for shows in heels - hurrah). Originally built as a market space, the iron structure was transformed into the Born Cultural Centre before it even had the chance to open after architects discovered Roman ruins.

Miriam Ponsa's avant-garde designs give a whole new meaning to chunky knitwear. Half scarf, half jacket, this amazing piece really caught our eye. We particularly love that she designs her collections from a workshop on the same premises in which her great-great-grandmother founded a textile factory in 1886. Talk about cut from the same cloth.

Already an established designer, Isabel Toledo was one of the hottest tickets at Barcelona Fashion Week. Her beautiful evening gowns and theatrical silhouettes have gained her a cult following across Europe, but there is more to her collection than just red carpet dresses. We loved the sugar-pink origami coat and this parachute silk jumpsuit.

We might have been busy but we still managed to squeeze in a quick shop (natch). The narrow streets of the Old Town are lined with interesting boutiques and traditional Spanish shops (not a chain retailer in sight!). La Commercial was one of our favourites, stocking everything from quirky lamps, plates and candles to eccentric sunglasses by independent designers; like a miniature Liberty in the heart of Barcelona.

No trip to Barcelona would be complete without dipping our toes into the sea of culture that the Spanish city has to offer. With only an afternoon to spare we dashed up to Park Guell for a whistle-stop tour around Gaudi’s fairytail creations. Hansel and Gretel eat your hearts out.
