I was there to try out their new Custom Blend Lip Gloss service and it’s every bit as gloopy and gorgeous as you’d imagine.

I think it must be every girl’s dream to be able to create her own lip gloss. In fact, scratch that, I now know it is: not only was I in my element sitting in my tall chair and messing around with the tantalising array of colours, glitter gels and flavours on offer, but I’d very soon attracted a lustful-looking audience of nine-year-old girls with their mummies. One had a collection of more than 400 lip glosses, she told me. So did she really need another one, asked her Mum, as she pleaded for a go. Of course she did!

If, like Gloss Girl, you apply the principle there’s always room for another lip lacquer in your life, then Prescriptives have got it all sewn up with this make-your-own service. With around 30 different colours, extenders, pearls, flavours and finishes to play around with, the possibilities are endless.

Which might be why one just wasn’t enough for me. After much glooping and mixing and tasting and testing on the back of my hand and mixing some more, I walked away with two tubes of bespoke gloss – one, a kind of dark, pinky-red that looks perfect dabbed on to lips for that flattering, stain-y look (and tastes of vanilla); the other a shimmery coral that I’m going to wear on my eyelids, too (never mind it tastes of melon). And that doesn’t include the several I’ve been composing in my head…

The Custom Blend Lip Gloss service is now available at Prescriptives counters nationwide and if you happen to really like the masterpieces pictured here, the recipes I came up with have been saved so you can even request your very own ELLE lip gloss. Ask for Annabel (the pink one) or Georgia (the coral) and relish being part of a very exclusive lip gloss club. They’re not just for nine-year-olds, you know.
