Is Sophie replacing Kate as the face of Rimmel?

Sophie Ellis Bextor was snapped filming an ad for Rimmel yesterday, just days after Kate Moss was spotted also filming a commercial for the cosmetics brand which she has been the face of for many years.

However, Moss is not out of a job, our friends at Rimmel have confirmed to us that Sophie has joined the supermodel as an ambassador for the brand. They have also signed up Lily Cole and both women will now star alongside Kate in the new season ad campaigns.

'The girls will all represent different looks' a rep for Rimmel told ELLE this morning. With these girls varied backgrounds in music, acting and modeling - and their very different looks, it's hoped they will broaden the appeal of Rimmel London around the world.

Japanese cosmetics giant Shiseido have announced that our very own Agyness Deyn will take over from Angelina Jolie as their brand ambassador next season, adding another leading world label to her modelling resume, which currently includes Burberry and JPG fragrances to name but a few.

Mother of four, Angelina was signed to the brand in 2006 and has enjoyed two years appearing in television and print ads for the company. Now Agyness will make her debut as spokesmodel in their Fall 2008 Maquillage campaign and will star in the brand's TV commercials as part of what is reportedly a 'mega bucks' deal. Not bad for a young lass form Lancashire.

Make the most of summer's ethical beauty focus and barely there, make up as this autumn looks set to be all about full on, hi- tech, high maintenance beauty trends.

In line with fashion's new obsession for sharp tailoring, hard-edged dressing and bad girl looks, beauty toughens up and eyes were the focus on the autumn 2008 catwalks with eyelash extensions, power brows (yep, they're not going away so keep brow grooming sets handy) and intricate eyeliner all set to be the looks du jour.

But it's not just our regime that's ramping up, our products are going to be super charged too and our friends at Lancome have given us a sneak preview of their hottest autumn launch, Ôscillation mascara, (£29.95). The wand looks like any other mascara but is actually battery operated and vibrates a staggering 7000 times per minute! The vibrations apparently help to coat every lash faster and more accurately, while also separating and lifting - for a clump free, more dramatic look that will look just perfect with our new season black dresses and lace blouses.

Ôscillation mascara will be in stores this October and we're predicting a stampede, so make the girl at your Lancome beauty counters your NBF now!

Masters of avant-garde fashion Viktor & Rolf have now turned their artistic hands to lashes, designing a haute couture range for eyelash artist Shu Uemura.

Since the launch of Shu Uemura's Tokyo lash bar world wide in 2005, lash extensions have become more than just a simple lengthening, they are a work of art and the perfect fashion accessory for a special occasion. This year Shu Uemura have collaborated with Viktor & Rolf to launch a collection of three new limited edition lashes, which had us cooing with excitement and adoration.

They may not be the most practical accessory for your average Saturday night on the town, but they are perfect for making a beauty statement at a special event. The three lash designs are Wing, which we think looks like paperclips! (pictured), Rhombus, which are gold, inspired by the diamond pattern on jesters outfits and Swirl, a set of super long lashes, which are the most simple of the three. So now you have another and more affordable way to buy yourself a piece of Viktor & Rolf.

£50 per pair. Available now in Harvey Nichols and Shu Uemura boutiques and nationwide from 1 July.

This week the ELLEuk.com team have noticed a sneaky new hair trend on the beauty horizon which we predict is going to be summer’s next big thing. 1970’s style bandos worn around your forehead – the perfect hair accessory for that urban hippy vibe.

Bandos have been given the all important celebrity seal of approval recently, with stars like Mischa Barton flaunting them at every opportunity. And, at this week’s Graduate Fashion Week Gala Awards our ELLE fashion spies spotted them in abundance on London’s coolest scenesters. Perfect for keeping unruly summer hair in place, we predict bandos will be a summer must-have for festivals, the beach and parties. To get the look wear your hair centre parted, loose and wavy (read: bed hair) for that perfect 1970s vibe.
